Charith Perera visited Welsh Water’s Pont-y-felin reedbed and wetland storm overflow in New Inn, Torfaen. Opened in October 2025 as the UK’s first site of its kind, Pont-y-felin uses reedbeds and wetland pools to naturally treat storm overflow before water is released into the Afon Lwyd, helping to protect water quality further downstream in the River Usk catchment.

The visit offered a close look at how nature-based infrastructure can combine environmental treatment with public benefit. Alongside the wetland basins and treatment features, the site includes footpaths, seating, and educational elements that create a welcoming green space for local residents and visitors.
