Resource Search Discovery (CASSARAM)

Search engines are well researched, implemented, and used in web domain in a very successful manner (e.g., Google, Bing). This project aims to envision search in Internet of Things domain. The search functionality in IoT is significantly different from web search domain. In IoT, two main entities we search are ‘sensors’ (or sensor data) and ‘services’. Together, we refer them as ‘IoT resources’. Searching ‘services’ is fairly familiar to us due to ‘web services’ research. However, ‘sensor’ search is completely new. In this project, we explore different types of search approaches.

Discovery and configuration is more related to physical domain. In IoT domain, Internet Connected Objects (which comprises sensors) deployed across different physical spaces need to be discovered and configured to support different IoT application needs over times. These changes are typically needed due to context changes overtime. In this project, we also explore different types of physical ICO discovery and configuration approaches. IOT resource search, discovery and configuration are important features in sensing as a service domain.
